ANNOUNCER: Welcome to the VTalk Radio's Photographer Spotlight with your host, John Bentley.

JOHN: Today's program is sponsored by morephotos.com the online photo sales solution to professional photographers worldwide.

JOHN: Today we are in the Studio with Louis Alexander of L. Alexander Photography Video
& Formalwear of Pembroke Pines, FL. Welcome > to VTalk Radio's Photographer Spotlight, Louis.

LOUIS: Thank you for having me.

JOHN: Now you're down in Florida there, tell us a little bit about your photography business.

LOUIS: Well, we've been in business almost 24 years. We started with a little studio doing mostly weddings. We have nowadays about a 1600 sq. ft. studio covering everything from families to children to, of course, weddings and formalwear.

JOHN: Now you offer other services also don't you?

LOUIS: Basically we just stick to photography and formal wear service.

JOHN: Ok, you're doing video also?

LOUIS: Correct.

JOHN: I see on your website you have a lot of different types of photography. I see pet photography on there. Could you tell us a little bit about that?

LOUIS: We do pet photography. Basically a lot of our clients that we have wedding services over the years they have come back with their pets, their kids, and so forth. So it's just another extension of our services. We do an average of about probably 40 or 50 throughout the year, and of course, certain times of the year such as Christmas and certain holidays we do do a lot more pet and others.

JOHN: I see that you have a lot of senior photography on there too. Tell us about that.

LOUIS: We started on senior photography...my background is actually from working out of a studio that did a lot of video photography. So that was basically an extension of what I used to do. After we did weddings for x amount of years, we started getting into teenagers, and of course, one thing led to the other one and senior photography has become extremely profitable for our business. Also it's fun. It's nice to hang around with the young crowd and just have fun and listen to the new ideas that they have.

JOHN: Speaking of young, I see some really cute children on your website. How is it working with Children?

LOUIS: It has its moments. Children are unpredictable, but again, they provide a lot of activity ideas so it's fun to do.

JOHN: What other kind of photography are you shooting, Louis?

LOUIS: Well, we do a lot of maternity. We have a children's club where we do a lot of children every three months or so. We also do a lot of videos. Eight out of ten weddings have videos and we've been doing videos for roughly, I'll say, a good 14, 15 years, and, like I said 8 out of 10 weddings we provide video services with. Besides the photography of maternity, children, families, and seniors, we also do a lot of commercial real estate basically just we are a full service studio. We provide everything the client needs.

JOHN: I see a couple other services that you offer are composite cards?

LOUIS: We do composite cards that's mostly for models and seniors are getting into that nowadays, because they find that it's just to provide a card with a whole bunch of pictures on it so it shows who they really are rather than one individual wallet. So, it has become a nice little thing to do for the seniors.

JOHN: And what about some old photos that you've pulled out of a box in the attic? Is that something you guys deal with?

LOUIS: You mean like restoration?

JOHN: Yeah.

LOUIS: We do a lot of restorations. Not really our forte, but we do some restoration as well.

JOHN: I see that you have tuxedo and formalwear rental?

LOUIS: We decided long ago that we want our grooms to look the best that they possibly can, and we got tired of the place at the mall that doesn't care to provide tuxedo services. So we incorporated that to make our weddings look a little better.

JOHN: Can you tell our listeners some of the communities and cities around Pembroke Pines that you cover?

LOUIS: Pembroke Pines is a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. We basically cover anywhere from the three county area which is Dade County, Miami area, all the way up to West Palm Beach. Basically anywhere between from our studio about 30 miles to the west and 30 miles to the east. We're basically in a heavy populated area so we have a lot of different communities. We basically cover Miami-Dade, Ft. Lauderdale, as well as, West Palm Beach area.

JOHN: What about some wedding facilities or banquet halls that you like to use?

LOUIS: We work well with all of them. It's not fair to recommend some and not to recommend others, but they know my work so...we basically work on any facility in the three county area.

JOHN: Would you tell our listeners your website and contact information, Louis?

LOUIS: The website is www.lalexander.com. They can always reach me at (954) 430-5737.

JOHN: We are in the studio with Louis Alexander of L. Alexander Photography, Video

VTALK RADIO: VTalk Radio.

ANNOUNCER: We now return you to VTalk Radio's Photographer Spotlight with your host, John Bentley. JOHN: Welcome back to VTalk Radio's Photographer Spotlight. Today we are in the studio with Louis Alexander of L. Alexander Photography, Video & Formalwear of Pembroke Pines, FL. Welcome back to the program, Louis.

LOUIS: It's nice to be back.

JOHN: Louis will you tell us why you decided to become a photographer in the first place?

LOUIS: Well, I was always the designated photographer at the family functions and just one thing let to the other one. You know, the thing about photography is that you normally don't go to a place where you're not wanted or it's a bad party, and everybody seems to be in a good mood and that attracted me to photography. It's something that it's a joyous occasion. It's a fun thing to do and besides being in South Florida it definitely beats being in the construction businesses.

JOHN: No doubt about it. I'm an amateur photographer myself, and I sure enjoy the creative aspect of it. What do you do to make a client comfortable when you're doing a photo shoot, Louis?

LOUIS: Well, first thing that we normally do is that we sit down with the client. We try to find out what the client's needs are. We take it to a very personal stage where the client feels comfortable while we're taking the pictures rather than we're directing the client to do what they want us to do. So it makes it a little easier knowing what the client needs really are and that way you end up giving the client the product that they requested. You may get them to feel comfortable by listening to what they have to say and what their needs are.

JOHN: What kind of advice would you give them when they're preparing themselves for a photo shoot.

LOUIS: Be themself. A portrait should be a reflection of who you are. Just be yourself, be comfortable, and just have fun. That's what it's all about. You want to see nice expressions, you want to see that the client is comfortable with what you're doing.

JOHN: What makes your services unique and what separates you from the competition, Louis?

LOUIS: Well we'd like to think that our creative efforts are different than everybody else in the area. We take everything to a personal level, and we listen to what our clients have to say versus having a one way of doing things and take it or leave it kind of approach. It makes us, I think, a little bit different than the rest of the competition. We try to provide the client with what they have in mind, and like I said, we listen to them, and we try to provide that.

JOHN: Now in this day and age of photography it's...most photographers are doing digital photography. Do you do standard film also?

LOUIS: I haven't shot a roll of film in close to 8 years.

JOHN: That answers that question. It certainly is a lot easier doing the digital isn't it?

LOUIS: Well, for the kind of work that we do, the retouching that we do and so forth, it's a lot easier to do it with digital. There are certain applications that film would probably turn out to be better, but because of what we do and it just...the beautiful things you can do with digital, you know, it just doesn't make any sense for us to go that way anymore.

JOHN: Louis, if you had to pick a dream photo shoot, what would that photo shoot be for you?

LOUIS: Anywhere on an island is fine by me.

JOHN: An island, there you go. Sounds good. What does the future hold for L. Alexander Photography, Video, and Formalwear?

LOUIS: Well hopefully more happy clients, my kids will take over the business, and there will be an Alexander Photographer on every corner.

JOHN: Well we appreciate you joining us today on the Photographer Spotlight, Louis.

LOUIS: Thank you very much for having me.

JOHN: Before I let you go, will you please give the audience your website and contact information again.
