Announcer:  Welcome to the MorePhotos Photography Spotlight, brought to you by morephotos.com, helping professional photographers with all of their internet needs.  Now, here's your host, John Bentley.

John:  Today on the MorePhotos Radio Photography Spotlight, we have Barbara Leidy of Barbara Leidy Photography.  She is a photographer out of the Norristown, Pennsylvania area.  Welcome to the program Barbara.

Barbara:  Thank you.

John:  Well, we appreciate you taking time out of your day to come and join us.  Why don't you tell our listening audience who and what is Barbara Leidy Photography.

Barbara:  Well, I am Barbara Leidy and I own and operate Barbara Leidy Photography.  I have been in business in the Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania, for over 20 years.  I am a Certified Professional Photographer through the Photographers of America.  My business primarily is weddings; however, I do a number of portraits, including maternity and babies, seniors, pets, children.  I do some publicity photographs for businesses and I go on locations, as well as having those people come to my studio, where I have an indoor studio and an outdoor studio.

John:  Let's talk a little bit about your outdoor studio.  I understand that you have quite the landscaping.

Barbara:  Yes.  I actually do the landscaping myself, so it's done just exactly how I want it.  I do photography throughout the day.  Primarily, it is done though in the late afternoon or early evening, when the light is just perfect.  We have about one acre of land and it has different garden settings, a pond, various backdrops, and we are photographing out there from the spring through the fall; and anybody who's brave enough to go out in the winter and the snow, we'll do that, too.

John:  All right, but you do have an indoor studio, too, for family portraits or anything that could be done in the winter time, then?

Barbara:  Yes, we do.  Yes, I have an indoor studio, where we have various backdrops.  We can use natural light.  We can use studio lighting.  And again, I also do out on location to people's homes, too, if they prefer thta.

John:  Okay.  Let's talk a little bit about the wedding industry, Barbara.  The wedding industry can be kind of a crazy thing at times, can't it be?

Barbara:  Oh, yes it can.  It's always exciting.

John:  Now, when you go out to do a wedding, are you the primary photographer?  Do you have a secondary photographer?  How do you approach that?

Barbara:  I am the primary photographer.  If the package that the bride and groom select calls for a second photographer, I bring a second photographer with me, but even so, I do the primary photography.

John:  Now, do you do some kind of preliminary consultation or anything like that?

Barbara:  Yes, we do.  Besides meeting with the bride and groom for the first time to tell them about our services, I also have contact with them throughout our relationship together, where if they need anything or if they are interestedin having an engagement photograph done, we do that. That's all included.  And then, a week or two before the wedding, I sit down with the bride and groom and we go over the details of the day so that the day flows smoothly and we know exactly what we're going to do.

John:  It's good to be prepared, that's for sure.

Barbara:  Yes, it is.

John:  Now, of course, after the wedding usually comes a baby in the baby carriage.  Do you do maternity photographs?

Barbara:  I do.  I love to do maternity photographs and baby photographs.  We have portrait packages which include the mother at different points in her pregnancy.  And then the baby, we photograph through the beginning months of their first year.

John:  Okay.  Then, obviously, one baby, maybe two babies, whatever, you end up doing the next stage, which would be like family portraits, right?

Barbara:  Absolutely.  And we also encourage couples to bring in not just their babies, but their pets, as well, so we photograph the whole family.

John:  All right.  Pets are part of the family, too, aren't they?

Barbara:  Yes, they are.

John:  Now, when the kids get a little bit older, then, I would imagine you start doing a lot of senior portraits, probably what, over the summer?

Barbara:  Yes.  I do a lot of senior portraits during the summer months, when we can utilize our outdoor garden studio, and that seems to be a popular time, when the seniors are celebrating their graduations and having a little more free time.

John:  Now, are there any other types of photography that you do, Barbara?

Barbara:  The only other; we mentioned publicity photos and weddings and portraits, maternity, babies, seniors, pets; I believe that's about all.

John:  Okay.  So, like the corporate-type business, if a real estate agent wants a head shot or something like that?

Barbara:  Oh, yes.  I photograph a lot of local real estate agents, and we do a variety of head and shoulder photographs and poses, and we can provide them within an hour or so of images, and they can be colored or black and white, whatever they need.

John:  Wonderful.  We are in the studio with Barbara Leidy of Barbara Leidy Photography.  You can find her at www.barbaraleidyphotography.com.  She is a photographer out of Norristown, Pennsylvania, and you are listening to the MorePhotos Radio Photography Spotlight.  We'll be right back after these important messages.  Do stay tuned.

Announcer:  We now return you to the MorePhotos Radio Photography Spotlight, with your host, John Bentley.

John:  Welcome back to the MorePhotos Radio Photography Spotlight.  We are in the studio with Barbara Leidy of Barbara Leidy Photography out of Norristown, Pennsylvania.  Welcome back to the program, Barbara.

Barbara:  Oh, thank you.

John:  Now, we have been talking about all the types of photography that you do.  Let's talk a little bit about the Norristown, Pennsylvania area.  What are some of the cities and communities around Norristown that you do business out of?

Barbara:  Yes.  I primarily do a lot of my business through Montgomery County, Philadelphia County, Bucks County, Berks County, Chester County, Delaware County, which is also called the Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania area.  I do also travel to the South Jersey area to do weddings and beach portraits, which I love to do.  And our surrounding community to Norristown is Blue Bell area, Plymouth Meeting area, and that's pretty much where we're located.

John:  Now, Barbara, are there any wedding halls or banquet facilities in the area that you work out of?

Barbara:  Yes.  There are many banquet facilities in the surrounding area.  Those that I work at quite frequently are Spring Mill Manor, Spring Mill Country Club, Blair Mill Inn, Normandy Farms, Blue Bell Country Club, the Presidential Caterers, the William Penn Inn, Commonwealth Club, on and on, so there are many, many different places that I love to work at.  Morris Arboretum is another one that has just spectacular gardens.  And there are many, many.

John:  Now, I understand that you also offer photo albums for anybody that might be interested?

Barbara:  Yes, we do.  I offer the traditional style album, which some of our brides still enjoy having; traditional meaning, you know, each photograph is put on a page and with a mat around it.  I also now have offered a contempary art book style album, where the photograph is plush to the page and they have the ability to put several different photographs on the page at varying capacities so that it really is a very creative page album.  Some studios have other companies that do their design, but I do my own design because I like to work with the client and have them tell me what they like, what pictures should be emphasized, and certain things that they might like as background photographs.  And then, I go ahead and design the album and then I present it to the bride and groom and show them before anything goes to final print so that they have a say so in the design of the album without making it too difficult for them to feel like they have to design, you know, a good part of the album themselves.  I try to make it as easy as possible for them, as I enjoy doing the album designs, too, not just taking the photographs, but I enjoy doing the album designs.

John:  Now, are there any other products or services that you offer, Barbara?

Barbara:  Well, I do framing.  Of course, I like every photograph that leaves my studio, every portrait photograph to be framed by me, but I realize that sometimes people have their own frames.  But, we can certainly make recommendations for the framing and the matting so that when you leave here, you have a finished product.

John:  Now, Barbara, what do you feel is the most important goal when you are shooting a client?

Barbara:  When I am photographing a client, the most important goal for me is to make it a very positive experience, and this is especially true when you are photographing children or people who are very nervous about having their picture taken.  You want them to feel comfortable, because if they don't, that will come across in the photograph and, again, it should be a positive experience.

John:  And, what do you feel is the future for Barbara Leidy Photography?

Barbara:  Well, the onset of digital photography has been just a wonderful way of being an artist, not just a photographer, and I have just welcomed that opportunity to be able to get into a lot of the artwork on photographs that I've always wanted to do.  And that's been very rewarding and my clients seem to really like that.  And for as many weddings as I do, I would also like to do portraits and babies and maternity photographs, not just one area as weddings have been, as I said, my primary source of income.  But, I do want to be the family photographer that people can come back to for years to come, not just, you know, a one-time event.

John:  Well, we've seen some of your work and we would highly recommend anybody in the Norristown, Pennsylvania area looking for a photographer to definitely take a look at what you have to offer.  Now, you also do some stock photography, too?

Barbara:  Yes, I do.  One of my hobbies is, my husband and I love to travel, and we have gone to some wonderful locations, particularly in the southwest and the Carribean, places like that in Hawaii, and I have had the wonderful opportunity to be able to photograph while in those places, and I do have some of those posted on my website.  Any of the images there are on sale.  You know, I would be happy to make enlargements and frame them and, you know, sell them as gifts.  And also, stock photography, as well.

John:  Great, Barbara.  Well, we certainly appreciate you taking time out of your day to join us on the MorePhotos Radio Photography Spotlight.

Barbara:  Well, great.  It's been wonderful.  I appreciate the opportunity.

John:  Well, thank you, and before we let you go, though, why don't you give your website and contact information for our listeners?

Barbara:  Sure.  My website is www.barbaraleidyphotography.com.  I can be reached through my website by email there, and my phone number is 610-239-0755.  But, feel free to contact me either by phone, by my website and email.

John:  Great.  We have been in the studio with Norristown, Pennsylvania photographer Barbara Leidy of Barbara Leidy Photography, and you have been listening to the MorePhotos Radio Photography Spotlight.  I am your host, John Bentley, signing off for now.  We'll see you next time.
